Camp Director

Key Responsibilities

Camp Leadership & Program Management

• Develop and oversee daily camp schedules, field trips, outdoor activities, and hands-on learning experiences.

• Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all campers and staff.

• Supervise camp counselors, activity leaders, and volunteers.

Camper Engagement & Activity Supervision

• Lead and coordinate off-site field trips (museums, nature parks, cultural centers, etc.).

• Oversee playground activities and ensure safety compliance.

• Organize and facilitate cooking/baking tutorials with campers, adhering to food safety guidelines.

Health, Safety, & Risk Management

• Enforce all camp policies, emergency procedures, and risk management protocols.

• Ensure compliance with state regulations for child safety and food handling.

Staff Management & Parent Communication

• Recruit, train, and manage camp counselors and activity instructors.

• Serve as the main point of contact for parents and guardians, providing updates and addressing concerns.

• Experience: Minimum 3 years in a leadership role managing a summer camp, school program, or youth organization.

• Certifications: Valid CPR & First Aid certification (or willing to obtain before camp starts).

• Food Handling Permit: A Washington State Food Handler's Card may be required for overseeing cooking/baking activities (must obtain if hired).

• Physical Ability: Able to actively supervise children during field trips, playground activities, and cooking sessions.

• Transportation & Field Trips: Experience coordinating and supervising off-site field trips with children, including transportation logistics and safety protocols.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation, child development, hospitality, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Leadership & Safety: Strong leadership, problem-solving, and risk management skills; ability to enforce safety and emergency procedures at all times.

• Availability: Must be available full-time for the entire summer session, plus 2 weeks prior for planning and training.

• Background Check: Candidates must pass a criminal background check and provide two professional references.

Bonus Qualifications (Preferred but Not Required)

• Experience in STEAM or cultural arts programming for children.

• Certification in lifeguarding or additional safety training.

• Ability to fundraise or secure sponsorships for camp programs.
